Day 11 - It didn't come home..
We began with a very early start at 3am for the football where both teams huddled together in front of 2 buffering laptops that produced a continuous delayed echo so when we eventually scored, half the group's celebrations were fairly half hearted. Then to add salt to our weary wounds those Argentines inevitably completed the comeback sending us back to our dorms in an attempt to salvage some sleep ready for the long day ahead.
On a lighter note, breakfast was at a later 8am where we all demolished our eggs or jam for the final time and hastily headed to the beach to catch some rays and cool off from the 34 (feels like 42) degree heat 🔥🫠. Sweaty and hungry, we slugged back to the accommodation to enjoy lunch and say our goodbyes to both Howard and some of Team 2 who joined us yesterday.
Then began one of 2 bus journeys, the first being 4 hours long followed by another 90 minute climb into the beautiful, mountainous and wet jungle. At was like we were driving through clouds due to the lower temperature and significant humidity.
Finally we checked into our new accommodation where we'll be staying one night and hopefully try to replenish our energy stores after the early start and full day of travelling.
Side note: some of the pictures added were from yesterday as we previously had wifi problems Additionally for the next 4 days, blogs won't be being published since we'll be deep in the Malaysian jungle trekking through dense greenery attempting to avoid those pesky leaches.
On the whole, it was an inactive day full of travelling and some down time after our hard work volunteering but we will make sue to document our experiences in the jungle and report back in due course.
You'll be happy to know we're keeping your children and peers on their toes by implementing forfeits for those who are late to meetings and meals - no excuses here!

Can’t wait to hear about the trek, so keep checking the blog!
Wow, look at that sea! And I’m very impressed by your handy work - what a wonderful infusion of colour! Another great blog, thank you ☺️ What am I going to do for the next few days without it? I’ll be thinking of you all on the heritage trek - it sounds absolutely fantastic. Please take lots of photos (Raffy, I packed you a camera) and stay safe (put those extortionate leech socks to good use) Lots of love xxx
Well done on the mural, and that beach photo looked like welcome relief from the heat! Good luck on the next stage, crack the leech socks out and power through, looking forward to hearing from you all on the other side!
Another great blog, well done Paddy boy. – maybe you weren’t so grumpy and homesick after all, and I needn’t have worried all night long! I hope a well-deserved splash about in that gorgeous blue sea has helped to restore spirits after England’s defeat last night. Must have been sad to say goodbye to your little jungle friends but I loved the mural you left behind. Well done for all your hard work in the relentless heat and humidity. Onwards and upwards into the jungle – where the real adventure starts! Time to crack open the leech socks ……. Miss you, love you, bye xxxxxx
Hope you are feeling happier Patrick! Great blog! Terrible football!! It’s still boiling here but alas no monkeys or murals! Tell Rosie Mr P bought a fellow cat home last night (looked identical to Mr P) and they woke Richard up running a mock around the house!
Well done for completing your volunteering!! The pictures of the beach are stunning! Wish I was there instead of my 35degree classroom! (Maddie it was my last day today though!! Cathy's wedding tomorrow then summer hols! 😎) Hope you enjoy the jungle trek- can't wait to hear all about it. Take care everyone xx
Why spell check thinks ‘rigby’ is the correct word I don’t know. You get the point
Never mind, hopefully the rigby boys will take revenge over the pesky argie bargies on Saturday 🤞🏻The mural looks great- well done all although a distinct lack of blue outlook top from Miss B Billingham, hope you haven’t lost it? Also the guy in the red jacket looks like he’s calling last orders at a pub, Betty and Vi look like they’re about to haggle some extra drinks?! Enjoy your jungle adventure and look forwards to hearing about it on the other side xx
