Day 5 - Beary Good day!

Maddie and Clemmie

Hi everyone! Maddie and Clemmie here,

Today has been a very busy day to say to say the least. It started off with a bit of a restless night- everyone stressing about mosquito nets and bug spray (lets just say Josie sprayed a bit too much in our bedroom) and a man singing outside the hut at 4am. Despite this, all the girls managed to get a reasonable amount of sleep in our room all together (and so did the boys)- however we weren't very happy as the teachers got air con and we didn't...

For breakfast we either had the option of another curry or overnight oats. The overnight oats were "cold" to quote Rosie, even though they were supposed to be.

We then packed our bags with the very helpful list Raffy gave us, and made our way to the orangutan sanctuary. We started off by going to the feeding platform where we saw a mum and her baby orangutans, and then witnessed a fight between her and a Macaque which left everyone bit shocked and with a newfound resentment towards macaque's. During this dispute, the baby orangutan got scared by the macaque and hugged its mother! which left everyone in awe- the macaque then continued to eat all the food and the mother and baby orangutan monkey barred off to the next feeding section.

Next we made our way over to the sun bear sanctuary, where we watched them scale trees for honey, chase ice cubes around their enclosure and roly-poly around. After this, we all ate lunch and then made our way over to the rainforest discovery centre. We went on a walk through the rainforest canopy where we saw snakes, eagles, squirrels etc. All the walking made everyone super sweaty (take the picture of Josie as proof), leaving Mr Lane with his T-shirt soaked through... It's definitely fair to say we got bitten by a lot of mosquitos throughout the day, Lottie and Frankie even ended up with matching bites on their elbows. 💪

We're now currently writing the blog after eating dinner- mainly 'beef' burgers and noodles, having been harassed by a stray dog who we nicknamed Bertha (Rat) and hoping to get a better nights sleep before our river safari tomorrow!

On another note, we all wanted to say thank you to the parents for commenting (bar the year 12 parents- you're letting us down in that regard, better up your game). We've been reading your messages out every night as a group and look forward to hearing from you all again soon!

P.s. A note to Maddie's mum- Did I leave my pillowcase at home? I can't seem to find it... Also remember to do my Duolingo!

What an amazing interaction you saw between the orangutans and the macaque. The rope bridges look fun, but seeing snakes in the wild sounds a bit scarier than the seagulls in Cheltenham. Breakfasts sound interesting, as do the mainly beef burgers…what else was in them? Enjoy the river safari. (Clemmie, Dobby inhaled half my fish starter before I could stop him when we out dinner in Dorset this evening. Still no manners.)

Sorry for the lack of messages…it took us a couple of days to find the blog then a couple more to figure out how to comment! Sounds like you’re having an amazing time and we’re loving hearing what you’ve been up to (finally!) Have fun on the river safari, keep sharing news and photos and we’ll get better at messaging! PS How’s the curry diet going Frankie??

Great photos! Lottie - am doing your Duolingo but your French is too hard so started maths instead. Sorry to hear about your mosquito bites. Are you burnt yet?

I am glad that Raffy’s list writing has extended beyond lists of Tottenham signings. You all look like you are having a great time. I’m sure you will look back on the 7 hour bus journey fondly in the years to come!

You all look like you are having an amazing time. Not sure it looked like Ella was too happy high up on a rope bridge. Keep the curry eating marathon while I do your Duolingo! I am now fluent in Swedish …

Sounds like you’ve had a great day! I love the monkeys - the bashful one in the blue hat is my favourite ☺️ A dog begging at the dinner table would be home from home for Raffy (Oscar is missing you). Try not to put the Rabies vaccines to the test! I hope you’re all getting a better nights sleep after all your activity. Do you have a fan at least?…🙏🏻 I can’t wait to hear about tomorrow’s adventures. And don’t forget the mosi spray - day and night!! Xxx

We've found the comments section at last!! Glad to hear that you had a great day with the orangutans and bears! Don't worry, we've been doing your Duolingo every day. No idea about the pillowcase though I'm afraid? We're loving reading the blogs and seeing all the pics so keep them coming! Still boiling here- wish we were there!! Lots of love xx

I hope the football fans amongst you find somewhere to watch the World cup at 5am on Sunday morning. Bring on the river safari, and watch out for floating logs! Maybe next time pay the premium for overnight air-conditioning.. In wonder when the leech socks get a run out?! What's your favourite 7-eleven treat? XX

Sounds like an amazing day and really hope you saw some flying squirrels too?! Cover yourselves in the deet to see off those horrid mozzies and breakfast curry sounds like a strong start to the day! Loving reading your updates whilst I lounge by the pool 😉

What a lovely experience you’ve all had today (except for the mosquitos)! Glad to hear curry was on offer for breakfast, it’s only been 24 hours since the last one! Also good to see the teachers sweating not only from the heat but also from the regret and guilt they should be feeling for having air con when the rest of you didn’t!!! Did the orangutans sing you a song about something to do with kings and jungle VIPs? Quiz question for you- what’s the name of the boy in jungle book? The black panther? And the snake? Maybe you’ll see them on your jungle adventure. Hope you all have a good sleep x

Bet you were all ready to throw your smelly shoes at the 4am singing man! Great pictures, Raffy as an orangutan takes the prize! Keep smothering yourselves in Deet, you'll need it for the river safari tomorrow. As I type Fery is playing Zverev in the semis....tie break first set.... what World Cup, its all about the tennis!! Keeping having lots of fun and look after each other. xxxx

What brilliant pictures and such an exciting day. I imagine a river safari might be a bit cooler?
